J(Yiannis) C. Vardaxoglou is Professor of Wireless Communications and Head of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department at Loughborough University in England. He received the BSc degree in Mathematics (Mathematical Physics) in 1981 from the University of Kent at Canterbury and then at the same institution he researched towards a PhD degree, which he received in 1985. He joined Loughborough University of Technology in 1988 as a Lecturer, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in January 1992 and in 1998 he was awarded a personal chair.

He established the Wireless Communications Research (WiCR) group (www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/el/research/wireless_comms/index.html) at Loughborough University and heads the Centre for Mobile Communications Research (www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/el/research/cmcr/). He has pioneered research, design and development of frequency selective surfaces (FSS) for communication systems, Metamaterials and low SAR antennas for mobile telephony and has commercially exploited a number of his innovations. He has served as a consultant to various industries, holds 3 patents and is the Technical Director of Antrum Ltd. He has attracted research funding from industry and has been awarded 12 EPSRC research grants of over £8Million (£2Million since January 2001). He has published over 160 refereed journals and conference proceeding papers and has written a book on FSS. He has attracted research funding of, has been awarded 12 EPSRC research grants (PI in 7). He is currently the Chairman of the executive committee of the IET’s Antennas and Propagation Professional Network in the UK and he chairs the IEEE’s distinguish lecturer program of the Antennas and Propagation Society (APS). Member of the EPSRC College in ICT. He Chairs the Executive Committee of Metamorphose, EU FP6 Network of Excellence of Metamaterials. He is the general chair of the 2nd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, EUCAP 2007. He chaired the 1st and 2nd IEE Antenna Measurements and SAR (AMS’02 and AMS’04) conferences and has been in the organising committee of the IEE International Conferences on Antennas and Propagation and EUCAP06. He was the general Chair of the 1st and 2nd Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC’05).
