Biography

Professor Peters was the director of the ElectroScience Laboratory from 1985 through 1994. His life-long interest in radar research began during World War II, when he worked in radar maintenance. In 1950 he joined the Antenna (now ElectroScience Lab) Laboratory as a research associate and has since served the laboratory in a variety of roles. In 1959 he was appointed assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and has been a professor in that department since 1967. Many of his former students are very active in the radar scattering community, serving in government, industry, and university organizations. Dr. Peters is a Fellow in the IEEE and is a member of Sigma Xi and Commission B of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI). His research activities have covered a wide range of electromagnetic-oriented areas, including radar scattering, antennas, electromagnetic compatibility, subsurface radar systems, and the geometrical theory of diffraction. Dr. Peters has reported on such research in approximately 70 journal articles and in numerous oral papers. Professor Peters retired in 1993 but continues his research activities. At present his major interest is in Ground Penetrating Radar.
