Biography

Professor Burnside is the former director of the ElectroScience Laboratory. He is an IEEE Fellow and received the College of Engineering's Harrison Faculty Award for excellence in engineering education in May 1983. He has received several best-paper awards. His recent research efforts involve the development of a state-of-the-art compact range and instrumentation system which is used for high performance scattering and antenna measurements for large structures in a relatively small anechoic chamber. In addition, he has investigated various array antenna problems, particularly the radiation patterns of on-aircraft antennas using modal solutions, physical optics, the geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD), and ray optics. He was presented the George Sinclair Award in 1987 for his contributions in compact range designs.
