Education

Ph.D. in physics 1960, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; B.Sc. in physics, 1953, St. Lawrence University.

Research Interests

Optics

Biography

Professor Collins' major efforts include work on optical resonators, holography, electromagnetic theory of optical devices, and numerical optical computing. Recent work is in the areas of laser cross-section calculation and measurement, optical fibers, liquid crystals, and asymmetric optical systems photonics in phased arrays. He has written some 30 papers in the technical literature and presented numerous oral papers and research reports. Professor Collins holds several patents in the optical field.
