1. In this project, we will develop a materials system of ceramic dielectric (and potentially magnetic) powders reinforcing an elastomeric polymer. This system will allow us to control the permittivity (and potentially the permeability) of the composite material by varying the powder volume fraction of the composite. By using a such as composite system with a unified matrix polymer material, the various electrical components can be directly patterned while maintaining a continuous material structure with a large compliance. The eventual goal is to develop materials where individual voxels of material may be patterned as a dielectric material (PDMS with ceramic powder), an inductor material (PDMS with ferrite material), or a conductor (PDMS with silver powder), or even a combination of any of these material properties. |

Elif Apaydin is a PhD student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University. She already holds a M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ohio State where she specialized on matching algorithms in multilevel hypergraph partitioning. She received her B.Sc. from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. On this project she will work on dielectric material fabrication. She is also interested in gas sensor development and neural network training, and interacting with circuit designers on obtaining specific materials for applications of interest to Raytheon. Her background in telecommunications and matching algorithm development will aid her in bridging this multidisciplinary project. |
